scissors
another shot from my film class. i made the mistake of purchasing slide film instead of normal negative film (c-41). basically slide film is meant to be processed to not come out as a negative, but ready for light to enlarge it in positive form. my teacher said it was a great mistake as i could cross-process the film – essentially develop the slide film in the same way negative film is developed. it has no colour base so the colours come out extremely saturated and a little off. i used some colour-filtration in the darkroom to turn the image completely green.
the world i want to see
i was camping on manitoulin island this past weekend. the weather wasn’t the greatest, but good times were still had. i didn’t really take any photos i liked except for this out of focus (on purpose, i promise!) of a small lake on the island. the water there is a beautiful blue/green.

first and last
this was an old dresser next to my bed in my cabin in temagami. it was the first and last thing i saw. i laid on my bed with my camera and shot it how i saw it at the start and end of my days.
UPDATE:
Apparently Michelle was taking a picture of me while I was taking a picture of the dresser. Enjoy!
the north
this past weekend i was blessed enough to be able to enjoy temagami for 3 days. it is a remote town in nothern ontario, about 5 hours north of toronto. i spent a few hours in this canoe over the 3 days, and many more over the 20 years i’ve been around it.
juxtapose
heres a shot from the inside of the abandoned house, looking out of a broken window into a field. this was one of the first areas that drew my interest. the lighting was spectacular but unfortunately our cameras can’t see as much as our eyes. i had to use a tripod and do some bracketing to get good exposures for the inside and out and combine them.
abandoned, like all else
mike and i went to shoot an abandoned house on friday at dusk. made for some interesting shots. the floorboards were a wreck so we couldn’t venture too far upstairs. heres a shot of the kitchen.

dreamscapes
no this isn’t out of focus, but its a thin slice of depth of field. shot at 1.4, 1/1600, iso 100. this is also my 200th shot i’ve posted on here!
this is just the beginning
well, this is the new polowick.com site. it has my favourite pieces of design for viewing. as well as a collection of my favourite photographs, and a link to my photoblog. this is the 182th image i’ve posted consecutively, even over christmas and other holidays (and my birthday!). 8 days from now i’ll be taking a trek across the states with my band which will leave me unable to post images every day. it was fun while it lasted and my photographs have become a little strained.
time constraints and the being uninspired (at least photographically) have left me stretching back into my archiving and posting photos i wouldn’t normally post, and post-process the way i shouldn’t. from now on i’ll try and update this photoblog when i can…it could be every week, every two weeks, or if this summer leaves me inspired again, it could possibly become a daily photoblog again. thank you to all of those who have taken the time to visit my site every day and another thanks to those who took the time to email me or comment. thanks!

univers 55
as i get ready for the new version of this site, i have been taking photos of my design work. so heres a shot taken looking down on my white kitchen table. book is kindly held by my roomate shane. shot with my 50mm 1.4, standing on top of the table, with a 430ex flash bounced to the right off a white wall.
for those who are interested in what this is, it is a school assignment where we were required to chose a typeface we admired and make a small book on it. this is page 4 where i laid out all the major characters contained in the font…
and shadows
just a shot experimenting with shallow depth of field and some unusual shadows. i apologize for the lack of original photos lately. i’m in the final two weeks of school until i depart into america with my band for tour. i’ll be stopping daily posts on may 5th until later may, but i’ll make sure to post lots of images to make up for it. thanks for looking!
im counting
a closeup of some chrome counters on an air hockey machine. is it nice enough outside to start shooting real things yet? mmmm its getting there.
magic
heres a shot of the 8 ball of my fathers snooker table. i can’t wait till im able to play this game every day again. on a side note, happy birthday dad.
minimalism
my friend anton needed a photo a cube he made for an article he wrote on minimalism. he is a great designer and it was fun to help set up and photograph what he envisioned.
sleeping in
this is a man sleeping in on a saturday morning in plain view on campus. it wasn’t even that early, it was 11:00am.
